Springwire Becomes an Initiative of Feeding America

On behalf of the Springwire Board of Directors, I want to share some very important and exciting news about the future of Springwire.  We are thrilled to announce that as of July 1, 2014 we are teaming up with Feeding America to bring Springwire services to the most vulnerable members of our community.

 Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a proven track record of success in serving millions of Americans each year.  Based in Chicago, Feeding America serves every county in the United States through their network of 201 food banks and 61,000 local food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters providing food to more than 37 million Americans each year.   Feeding America is a highly efficient organization that invests 98 percent of all donations raised directly into programs and services that reach people in need. 

They have recently launched a new strategy called Collaborating for Clients, a major and multi-year project that aims to help their food bank clients achieve stability and self-sufficiency.  Through Collaborating for Clients, they are changing their approach from simply feeding the hungry to working to end hunger – addressing the root causes of hunger in addition to providing meals. The strategy is to “collaborate for clients” by building interconnected national and local coalitions of organizations focused on their clients’ greatest areas of need to achieve self-sufficiency: food, housing; health care; and employment. Over the next 18 months, Feeding America will explore ways to utilize Springwire’s services, including Community Voice Mail, as a part of their Collaborating for Clients Initiative.  Longtime Springwire staff member Trisha Matthieu will join the Feeding America team as the Program Manager. Resource Broadcasting – November 28th Edition

Each week, Springwire sends out a message to clients across the county as part of our Resource Broadcasting. Last week we sent out a special message just for Thanksgiving. We received a tremendous response (over 50 responses!) from many of our Community Voice Mail participants. At Springwire we personally listen to each and every response that we receive from our Community Voice Mail users and it was an amazing assignment to come back to on Monday. I got to listen to well over the number of responses we typically receive from broadcasts and they were all messages of thanks. People thanked their families, shelters, food banks, pets, and so much more it was extremely heartwarming. Read more
